Cape Capensis

Cape Capensis

Cape Capensis has a delicate, mild, lightly sweet taste and medium-firm texture with a large flake. It is the firmest of all species of Merluccidae and is considered by many to be the best Whiting species. Caught in the icy cold Benguela current off the coast of Southwestern Africa, Cape Capensis has become a popular substitute for more expensive species like Cod, Haddock, Flounder, Sole, and even Orange Roughy. The nutrient-rich unpolluted water of the Benguela current is swept up the western coast of Africa from the Antarctic. This frigid water is important to this fish’s firm texture.

Hake is a soft, flaky white fish. It has a more delicate texture than haddock or pollock and is suited for nutritionally-dense meals. Hake is a lovely source of essential fatty acids, protein, minerals, and fat-soluble vitamins. This white fish is non-oily, and is a deep water fish and therefore is low in calories and saturated fats.
